This extension allows you to connect to a remote Linux Lima as a replacement for gdb on Apple M1, and VS-Code as if it were running natively on that machine. In the Lima terminal window, install gdb by running the command sudo apt-get install gdb. Once the extension dodnload installed, it up and open a icon in the left-hand sidebar.
My university requires the use the Lima virtual machine.
